Art and Design
Our vision for Art at Norwood:
To provide an art curriculum that is inspirational and which facilitates creativity and individuality. To provide opportunities for each child to be engaged in the arts and develop their self-belief and a ‘can do’ attitude. To explore the visual arts using a wide variety of media and techniques so that they leave primary school with a good working knowledge of art and artists.
How is Art taught at Norwood
In Early Years: Children are presented with a range of provoking opportunities which enthuse them and which spark their curiosity. They are encouraged to explore materials through an exploratory approach. In Pre-school and Reception, children will form a solid base which will prepare them for their next learning stages.
In Key stage 1: Children begin to explore their use of drawing, painting, printing and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination, as well as a range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
In Key stage 2: Children are encouraged to improve their mastery of the art and design techniques already learned. All children have a sketch book which follows them through the different year groups and key stages enabling them to study their progress and mastery of techniques while having time to explore and reflect.
