Y4 Kenya Class Miss Bennett

Welcome to our Class Page!

Jambo! (That means 'Hello' in Swahili - one of the languages of Kenya!) At Norwood this year, we have chosen to have the theme of Countries for our class names. Collaboratively, we decided we wanted to be Kenya Class this year. We were astounded to discover that although the two official languages of Kenya are English and Swahili, dozens of indigenous languages are spoken throughout the country! Why not do some of your own research with your child and see what other amazing facts you can discover about Kenya?

We will update this page regularly, so please make sure you pop back and have a look to see what we have been up to!

I am really excited for the start of this different but busy term. If you have any concerns, please contact the school office and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Kwaheri! (Goodbye!)

~ Miss Bennett (Class Teacher) and Mrs Lester (LSA)

Useful Information

Our PE day is a MONDAY, children need to come to school in their full PE kit and will stay in it all day.

In the Autumn term, Year 4 will be swimming. Please ensure your child brings their swimming costume, towel and a swimming hat. Children need to wear dark coloured clothing and a plain white t-shirt. This needs to be warm clothing as we will be walking to and from Places & Leisure in all weathers. They will also need sensible trainers. Your child will be required to tie their hair up and remove their earrings (which should be done at home if possible) in accordance with Hampshire guidance.

PE kit should consist of black/blue shorts and a white t shirt. Tracksuit bottoms can be worn during the colder times and should be a dark colour. Children can also wear a jumper/hoody which should ideally be a dark colour too. Please ensure they have their water bottle in school everyday.

If you are not in school and need Remote Learning, please click on the Curriculum Activities link in the Curriculum Activities section above.

We will be sending your child home with reading books and are planning to visit the school library again as soon as possible. Please read at home as often as possible and bring your book back into school when finished to replace it with a new book. We also still have our membership to Bug Club, an online reading platform, and will be sending home updated login details as soon as possible.

We still have membership to the online times tables games at Times Tables Rock Stars and will be able to remind children of their login details in school if they have forgotten them. This is a vital website over the forthcoming year as all Year 4 children will be tested on their Times Tables in June 2022.

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday to be learnt and discussed before a spelling test the following Friday. They will be given in sentences to help children to understand the meaning and usage of the words, and children are encouraged to think of other words that fit the weekly spelling rule. Weekly Spellings can always be found below if your child misplaces their paper copy or is absent.
