Year 4 (Murray Class and Daintree Class)
Welcome to Year 4!
At Norwood this year, we have chosen to have the theme of rivers for our class names. Collaboratively, we decided we wanted to be Murray and Daintree Classes this year. We were astounded to discover that the Murray River is the third longest navigable river in the world, after the Amazon and Nile! Incredibly, the Daintree River, with the Daintree Rainforest either side and whose mouth leads to the renowned Great Barrier Reef, is one of Sir David Attenborough's favourite spots!
Why not do some of your own research with your child and see what other amazing facts you can discover about the Murray and Daintree rivers of Australia?
We will update this page regularly, so please make sure you pop back and have a look to see what we have been up to!
We are really looking forward to what the new Spring term has to offer us! If you have any concerns, please contact the school office and your class teacher will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively, there are the class email addresses (which are checked once a week on a Tuesday) where you can also email any home learning completed! Miss Harding and Murray Class are year4a@norwood.hants.sch.uk and Miss Bennett and Daintree Class are year4b@norwood.hants.sch.uk.
~ Miss Harding (LKS2 Lead and Y4 Class Teacher), Miss Bennett (Y4 Class Teacher), Mrs Mukha (LSA) and Mrs Lester (LSA).
Information for Parents
Useful Information
Our PE day is a FRIDAY and children need to come to school in their full PE kit and will stay in it all day.
Children need to wear a PE kit consisting of black/blue shorts and a white t shirt. Tracksuit bottoms can be worn during the colder times and should be a dark colour. Children can also wear a jumper/hoody which should ideally be a dark colour too. Your child will be required to tie their hair up and remove their earrings (which should be done at home if possible) in accordance with Hampshire guidance. Please ensure they have their water bottle in school everyday.
If you are not in school and need Remote Learning, please click on the Curriculum Activities link in the Curriculum Activities section above.
We will be sending your child home with reading books and library books. Please read at home as often as possible and bring your book back into school when finished to replace it with a new book.
We still have membership to the online times tables games at Times Tables Rock Stars and will be able to remind children of their login details in school if they have forgotten them. This is a vital website over the forthcoming year as all Year 4 children will be tested on their Times Tables in June 2023.
Spellings will be sent home on a Friday to be learnt and discussed before a spelling test the following Friday. They will be given in sentences to help children to understand the meaning and usage of the words, and children are encouraged to think of other words that fit the weekly spelling rule. Weekly Spellings can always be found below if your child misplaces their paper copy or is absent.
