Norwood Primary & Pre-School

YR (Donaldson Class & Murphy Class)

Welcome to Year R!

At Norwood this year, we have chosen to have the theme of authors for our class names. In Year R, our classes are named after Julia Donaldson and Jill Murphy. We will be learning about the authors we have chosen throughout the year and sharing many of their fabulous books!

We are very lucky to be supported by our learning support assistants, Mrs Coxon and Miss Daniels. Mrs Patten also helps to look after Donaldson Class on Tuesdays and Mrs Ward helps to look after Murphy Class on Tuesday afternoons.

In Year R we enjoy exploring the different areas of our learning environment, both indoors and in our garden.

Our P.E. lessons take place on Wednesdays and they will be held in the hall during the Autumn term. Please send your child to school wearing their P.E. kit on Wednesdays. Please ensure that all earrings are removed and that long hair is tied back.

We will be visiting our Discovery Centre on alternate Thursday mornings to explore the books. We will then be able to choose a book to borrow and read at home. We need to return our previous library book before we are able to borrow a new one.

Please try to visit our Year R page on a regular basis to find out what we have been up to and refer to the attachments below for information which will include a copy of our most recent class newsletter.

Norwood BLP Learning Heroes

At Norwood we believe in giving children the strategies and skills to be able to work their way through a problem independently. Throughout the first term, we will be introducing each of the BLP (Building Learning Power) Learning Heroes who will each teach the children about a strategy or skill they can use to help them when they face a challenge.

Our first BLP Learning Hero that the children will learn about is the Determinator. He is the champion of maintaining a Growth Mindset and he never gives up!
