Norwood Primary & Pre-School

Year 4 (Gold Class and Hawke Class)

Welcome to Year 4!

At Norwood this year, we have chosen to have the theme of authors for our class names. Collaboratively, we decided we wanted to be Gold and Hawke Classes this year. We are looking forward to learning more about each author throughout the academic year.

We will update this page regularly, so please make sure you pop back and have a look to see what we have been up to! We are really looking forward to what the Spring term has to offer us!

If you have any concerns, please contact the school office and your class teacher will get back to you as soon as possible.  Alternatively, there are the class email addresses (which are checked once a week on a Wednesday) where you can also email any home learning completed! Mr Davies and Gold Class are year4a@norwood.hants.sch.uk and Miss Bennett and Hawke Class are year4b@norwood.hants.sch.uk.

Useful Information

Our PE day is a Wednesday and children need to come to school in their full PE kit and will stay in it all day.

Children need to wear a PE kit consisting of black/blue shorts and a white t shirt. Tracksuit bottoms can be worn during the colder times and should be a dark colour. Children can also wear a jumper/hoody which should ideally be a dark colour too. Your child will be required to tie their hair up and remove their earrings (which should be done at home if possible) in accordance with Hampshire guidance. Please ensure they have their water bottle in school everyday.

Swimming starts on Friday 23rd February and will continue every Friday for 11 weeks. All children are required to take part unless there is a medical reason why they should not. The children will wear their school uniform and will need to bring their swimming items with them. Please ensure you send your child to school with a coat in case of inclement weather and suitable walking shoes.

Children will need to pack a swimming costume, hat and towel into a bag which needs to be large enough for them to put their clothes and footwear into whilst they swim. Needless to say, it helps enormously if items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Long hair should always be tied back and if you wish your child to wear goggles, they must be provided. It is wise to double check that your child’s inhaler is also working efficiently - just in case they need it whilst at the pool.
Please note: The Sports Centre policy insists that ALL children wear a swimming hat so if your child has one, please ensure that they bring it with them.

Important documents can be found below, organised by each school term. We will endeavour to upload pdf copies of presentations and meetings but if you need assistance, please contact your child's class teacher.

We will be sending your child home with reading books and library books. Please read at home as often as possible and bring your book back into school when finished to replace it with a new book.

We still have membership to the online times tables games at Times Tables Rock Stars and will be able to remind children of their login details in school if they have forgotten them. This is a vital website over the forthcoming year as all Year 4 children will be tested on their Times Tables in June 2024.

Spellings will be sent home on a Friday to be learnt and discussed before a spelling test the following Friday. We are using the online platform Emile for our home learning this year. Please see you child's class teacher if you have any feedback or questions.
